This Privacy Policy explains how Joyfans ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in line with applicable laws, including the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), where they apply. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to provide the Service:
- Account information — your email address, a password (stored only as a salted, hashed value using scrypt; we never store your plain password), and an optional display name. If you sign in with a third-party provider, we receive basic profile information from that provider.
- Age confirmation — a record that you confirmed you are 18 or older.
- Conversation data — the messages you send to companions and the AI-generated responses you receive.
- Relationship and personalization data — memories extracted from your conversations, relationship/intimacy progress, mood signals, conversation summaries, virtual gifts sent, and Diamond balances and transactions.
- Preferences and settings — such as your selected companion, timezone, and locale.
- Technical data — limited server logs (such as IP address, device/browser type, and timestamps) used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and the Service is not directed to minors.
2. How We Store Account and Conversation Data
Your account, conversations, memories, relationship state, gifts, and transactions are stored in our database on servers we control, isolated per user account so that one user cannot access another's data. Passwords are hashed with scrypt. Sessions are maintained using signed, HTTP-only cookies. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
3. How Intimacy Levels, Memories, Gifts, and Relationship Data Are Processed
To make companions feel continuous and personal, the Service automatically processes your conversations to:
- extract and store memories (facts and preferences you share) so your companion can reference them later;
- maintain a rolling summary of your history together;
- derive an intimacy/relationship level and mood from your interactions and gifts;
- record virtual gifts and Diamond transactions.
This processing is used solely to operate and personalize your experience within the Service. It is not used for advertising, and we do not sell it.
4. Cookies and Analytics
We use a single essential session cookie to keep you signed in. We also use your browser's local storage to remember non-sensitive preferences such as your age confirmation and last selected companion. We do not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this Policy and, where required, request your consent.
5. Third-Party AI and Service Providers
To generate responses and features, your content is shared with third-party providers that process it on our behalf:
- AI inference providers (for example, OpenRouter and the underlying model providers it routes to) receive your messages and relevant context to generate companion replies, extract memories, and create summaries.
- Voice synthesis (for example, ElevenLabs) receives message text when you use voice playback.
- Image generation backends receive image prompts when you request images.
These providers process your content to deliver the requested feature and are expected to handle it under their own terms and privacy commitments. Because providers may operate in other countries, your data may be processed internationally. We share only what is necessary and do not sell your personal information.
6. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)
Where GDPR applies, we process your data on the basis of: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you request), consent (for example, confirming adult content and optional features), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improving the Service), and legal obligations.
7. How We Protect Your Data
We use technical and organizational safeguards including encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, per-user data isolation, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data ("right to be forgotten");
- export/port your data;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent;
- (California residents) know what we collect, request deletion, and opt out of "sale" of personal information — note that we do not sell your personal information — with no discrimination for exercising your rights.
You can delete your conversation history at any time from within the chat. To exercise other rights or request full account deletion, contact us using the details below. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframes required by law.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account and related data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may delete chat history in-app at any time, which removes those messages and resets the associated conversation summary. When you request account deletion, we delete your personal data from our active systems, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse. Limited security logs are kept only for a short period.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
